Vehicles in Germany's City Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Report

Officers stated they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then found many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations show the substance was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A high-ranking representative said the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved quickly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
